Just a bit about the old lie of us being to blame for global change.
If as estimated the population of the earth is 7 billion, and the average weight per person 65 kilograms. That will equal 455 billion kilograms, and roughly the same in volume 455 billion litres.
That is .45 billion metric tonnes, say half a billion tonnes, and half a billion litres in volume.
Now to put this absolutely in perspective, the area of mainland Great Britain is
|
219,000 km2 (84,556 sq. miles) |
So a simple sum tells us that this is 219 billion square meters. So if we spread the whole of the worlds population on to Great Britain in a single layer it would amount to just over 2 kilograms or liters per square meter.
No for those who are not quite sure, a litre is 1000 cubic centimetres or 1000 cc’s. Each cubic centimeter consists of one thousand cubic millimetres. So in a litre of volume there are one billion cubic millimetres. OK? Now a square metre, is a thousand millimetres by a thousand millimetres. That makes a million
That equates to just over 2 millimeters. Hardly significant one would say.
I have tried to make this worse than it looks, but my sums still give the same answer.
If I am wrong please let me know.
So how the bloody hell can we effect the worlds atmosphere so much?
